At WordCamp Europe this year in Vienna, Matt Mullenweg inspired me during his interview session to learn JavaScript deeply. Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to do that regularly until now, so today after beeing reminded by the same person during his State of the Word address at WordCamp US, I signed up for the JavaScript Road Trip from Code School. Although I already know the basic concepts of JavaScript, I decided to start from scratch and after doing a free chapter I was convinced that the Code School web-based, video and interactive approach of hands-on programming courses and coding challenges will make it much easier and fun to learn JavaScript more deeply on a regular basis.
JavaScript Road Trip Part 1 is a short introduction to the very basics of JavaScript’s structure and syntax. While you won’t come away from this course ready to script away, you will get a sense for 1. Just how well done code school courses are; and 2. the basic building blocks of JS.
The 1st level is free and if you want to continue there are monthly or yearly subscriptions available. As an Openstream developer you will get access to all Code School courses for free. There are 17 JavaScript courses available, but also many more from other scripting and programming languages.

- Level: The Cliffs of Value – Learn to manipulate values on the console – 2 Videos, 10 Challenges
- Level: Variable Valley – Review how to store and use data with variables – 2 Videos, 12 Challenges
