Bitcoin Magazine’s flagship Bitcoin conference, an event for those seeking greater freedom and individual sovereignty has been taking place in Miami Beach since 2021 drawing up to 35’000 (!) attendees The first issue in 2019 started out in San Francisco, featuring Edward Snowden as a keynote speaker, who will also be speaking at Bitcoin Amsterdam 2023 on October 12 and 13. The European edition is a wee bit smaller. It takes place for the 2nd time and it will be my 1st time attending in person!
Bitcoin for Financial Freedom
Edward Snowden, the notorious American whistleblower, has confirmed he relied on the censorship resistance of Bitcoin to help leak data to journalists in 2013. Snowden made headlines across the globe after leaking highly classified information from the National Security Agency (NSA) when he was a CIA employee and subcontractor.
The leak revealed several global surveillance programs, many operated by the NSA and the Five Eyes Intelligence Alliance with the help of telecommunication companies and European governments, prompting a global discussion about national security and individual privacy.
The servers that I used to transfer this information to journalists were paid for using Bitcoin.

During his talk, Snowden praised Bitcoin’s decentralized and permissionless nature and the freedom it gives users to exchange and transact without supervision, particularly in a world driven by heightened surveillance facilitated by the emergence of technology. I’m looking forward to him addressing the crowd at Bitcoin Amsterdam 2023.
