Liebe Leser:innen

Die erste Schweizer Krypto-Briefmarke erschien im November letztes Jahr und war innert weniger Tage ausverkauft. Sie war auf 175 000 Exemplare limitiert und wurde vom Zürcher Künstler Gregor Forster gestaltet. Die Swiss Crypto Stamp 2.0 erschien Anfang August 2022, sie ist in Zusammenarbeit mit dem grössten Filmfestival der Schweiz in Locarno entstanden und hat eine Auflage von 250 000 Exemplaren, 25 000 pro Sujet.

Zum Zeitpunkt der Veröffentlichung dieses Newsletters gibt es noch Exemplare im Online Shop der Schweizerischen Post und vermutlich auch in diversen Postfillialen. Aktuell ist der Shop im Gegensatz zum 8. August nicht überlastet 😅 Jedes der 10 Sujets besteht aus einer Briefmarke und einem dazugehörigen NFT (Non-Fungable Token). Die NFTs sind über einen kryptografischen Schlüssel zugänglich und werden in der Blockchain gespeichert. Eine Krypto-Briefmarke kostet 9 Franken.

Des weiteren geht es um’s Thema technische Suchmaschinenoptimierung und Site Speed. Bei der Suchmaschinenoptimierung (SEO) unterscheiden wir zum einen in technisches SEO und zum anderen in inhaltliches SEO (Onpage SEO). Oftmals wird der Fokus (berechtigterweise) sehr stark auf den Inhalt der Webseite gelegt, wie z.B. die Verteilung der Keywords, die Textlänge oder die Gestaltung der Überschriften. Um bei Google & Co. aber wirklich zu punkten, muss unbedingt auch das technische SEO berücksichtigt werden.

Die Sommer Event-Pause ist vorbei, was man auch an den vielen grossartigen Web2 und Web3 Events im September und Oktober erkennen kann. Im Zuger Crypto Valley findet der von der Crypto Valley Association organisierte CV Summit 2022 statt, sowie ein Panel und Apéro zum Thema Self-Sovereign Identity. In der Zürcher Kryptoszene findet im September der nächste Crypto Monday statt, sowie eine Self-Custody Unconference. Das ganze «gipfelt» im Oktober mit dem Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano. Eine Bitcoin Konferenz, mit legendären Speakern wie Cypherpunk Nick Szabo, dem US-Fernsehmoderatoren und Filmproduzenten Ehepaar Stacy Herbert und Max Keiser, Adam Back, Peter McCormack und vielen anderen Grössen der Bitcoin-Szene.

Site Speed

Der Wert für die Gesamtgeschwindigkeit einer Webseite setzt sich meist aus sechs Messwerten zusammen.

  1. First Contentful Paint
  2. Speed Index
  3. Largest Contentful Paint
  4. Time to Interactive
  5. Total Blocking Time
  6. Cumulative Layout Shift

Diese Werte geben z.B. an, wie lange es dauert, bis der Browser die Bilder und Texte geladen hat. Wie lange es braucht, bis der Browser mit dem Server interagiert (Serververbindungszeit) und ob das Layout richtig geladen wird. Je besser jeder einzelne Wert abschneidet, umso besser ist das End-Ergebnis. Um einen optimalen Wert zwischen 90 – 100 zu erreichen, bedarf es einiges an Wissen und Know How. Daher werden Anpassungen und Verbesserungen in diesem Bereich bei Openstream von erfahrenen Entwicklern vorgenommen. Zudem ändern sich die Bewertungskriterien von Google und Co. permanent, daher ist es wichtig hier immer auf dem Laufenden zu sein.

Technisches SEO

Unter technischem SEO sind die Optimierungen zu verstehen, die dazu führen, dass die Webseite für die Suchmaschinen zugänglich, lesbar und indexierbar ist. Das Ziel ist, dass Google und Co die Informationen richtig lesen und einordnen können, um so die Seite bei entsprechenden Suchanfragen auch anzuzeigen. Optimierungsbereiche sind z.B. der Quellcode, Servereinstellungen beim Hosting oder Anpassungen bei verwendeter Software.

Google Updates – Announced and Unannounced

Every year, Google performs hundreds of algorithm improvements and updates. For your search query, a Google algorithm will look for, rank, and deliver the most relevant pages. Google released significant core updates in May 2022 which were the topic in a very insightful Duda webinar named “Master the Craft of Weathering Google Updates”.

Marie Haynes, analyzed previous Google updates, explained what the focus was, and shared her techniques for preparation and recovery. She was joined by John Mueller and Barry Schwartz in order to look at what the rest of the year ahead would be holding and explained how you should prepare so that Google updates, announced or not, are plain sailing for you. Organisation des WordCamp Europe 2022 in Porto – Part 3

Das WordCamp startet immer mit einem Contributor Day. Das ist ein besonderer Tag, an dem die Teilnehmer mit ihrem Wissen zur Verbesserung und Weiterentwicklung von WordPress beitragen können. Hier finden sich verschiedene Themen- bzw. Arbeitsgruppen zusammen und erarbeiten Lösungen für bestehende Probleme oder entwickeln etwas weiter, etc..

Nick, Gründer von Openstream, war dieses Jahr wieder Teil einer solchen Themengruppe. Er war im internationalen Polyglots Team aktiv, welches sich um die Übersetzung von WordPress in zahlreiche Sprachen kümmert. Er ist Maintainer der deutschen Übersetzung für die Schweiz (de_CH). Auch Sandro, ein WordPress und WooCommerce Spezialist bei Openstream, hat schon Monate vor dem Event im Budget Team als Organisator gearbeitet. Als Volunteer war auch Anita, SEO-Spezialistin und Projektmanagerin bei Openstream, auf dem Event unterwegs und hat in unterschiedlichen Bereichen unterstützt. Nach Jahren harter Arbeit ist das Proof of Stake Upgrade von Ethereum endlich da. Das erfolgreiche Upgrade aller öffentlichen Testnetze ist abgeschlossen, und der «Merge» wurde für das Ethereum Mainnet für September 2022 geplant. WordPress 6.0.1 Fix Release

This maintenance release from July 12, 2022 features 13 bug fixes in Core and 18 bug fixes for the Block Editor. WordPress 6.0.1 is a short-cycle maintenance release. You can review a summary of the key updates in this release by reading the RC1 announcement.

The next major release will be version 6.1 planned for later in 2022.

If you have sites that support automatic background updates, the update process will begin automatically.

You can download WordPress 6.0.1 from WordPress.org, or visit your WordPress Dashboard, click “Updates”, and then click “Update Now”.

WordPress 6.0.2

WordPress 6.0.2 was released on August 30, 2022. This security and maintenance release features 12 bug fixes on Core, 5 bug fixes for the Block Editor, and 3 security fixes. Because this is a security release, it is recommended that you update your sites immediately. All versions since WordPress 3.7 have also been updated.

WooCommerce 6.7

WooCommerce 6.7 was released on July 12, 2022. This release is backward compatible with the WooCommerce 6.6 version and contains

  • 460 commits from 47 contributors in WooCommerce Core
  • 87 commits from 17 contributors in WooCommerce Blocks
  • 43 commits from 8 contributors in ActionScheduler

As always, it is recommended to create a backup of your site and make sure that your theme and any other plugins are compatible before updating. You can check out the official update guide for more information or consult with your preferred WooCommerce developer or agency. On this site we run updates automatically, but this is only possible if you have enough confidence that it will not break vital functionally and are able to react quickly in case any problems occur.

What’s new in 6.7?

  • Release Cadence Update: In the pursuit of a more stable Release Candidate, we have increased the beta cycle by one week and decreased the Release Candidate cycle accordingly.. This will have no impact on the final release date, which remains the second Tuesday of each month.
  • Product Reviews: Product reviews now have a dedicated location within WooCommerce. The reviews will be accessible via the admin menu at Products > Reviews and the new reviews will also show up under WooCommerce > Home.
  • WooCommerce Blocks updated to version 7.8.3. See the release posts for 7.7.0 and 7.8.0 for included changes.
  • These are just some of the changes that are included in WooCommerce 6.7. You can find the complete changelog for this release.
Butterfly WooCommerce

WooCommerce 6.8 Update

On August 9, WooCommerce released version 6.8, which is backward compatible with WooCommerce 6.7. This release contains:

  • 170 commits from 60 contributors in WooCommerce Core
  • 91 commits from 24 contributors in WooCommerce Blocks

As always, it is recommended to create a backup of your site and make sure that your theme and any other plugins are compatible before updating. You can check out the official update guide for more information. If you’re using Openstream’s Managed WooCommerce Hosting, you don’t have to worry as all updates will be done automatically in the background.

WooCommerce 6.8.1 + 6.8.2 Fix Releases

On August 19, WooCommerce released version 6.8.1 which introduces a fix for a shipping issue that was introduced in the 6.8.0 release. On August 23, WooCommerce released version 6.8.2, because some version numbers were incorrectly updated in 6.8.1, causing problems for some sites. These version numbers were correctly updated in this version of WooCommerce. No other changes were made, so if your 6.8.1 install is working feel free to skip the update.

OpenMage 19.4.17 and 20.0.15 Releases

On August 2, the OpenMage project released new versions with ~150 bug fixes and enhancements. OpenMage 19.4.17 contains 136 changes from 38 different contributors. OpenMage 29.0.15 contains 158 changes from 38 different contributors. If you’re using OpenMage for your clients, please consider supporting one of the contributors on Github.

Magento 2.4.5, 2.4.4-p1, 2.4.3-p3, 2.3.7-p4 Releases

Hundreds of issues have been fixed in the Magento Open Source 2.4.5 core code. It also introduces improvements to platform quality, payment methods, GraphQL caching performance, and accessibility, as well as updates to integrated Google modules. This release includes over 290 quality fixes and enhancements.

Apple Pay

Apple Pay is now available to all merchants running deployments with Payment Services enabled. This payment method does not require shoppers to enter their credit or debit card details. Apple Pay is available on the product details page, mini cart, shopping cart, and checkout workflow. Merchants can toggle on this feature.

PayPal

  • Merchants in Spain and Italy can now offer PayPal Pay Later to shoppers.
  • Previews of the PayPal, Credit and Pay Later buttons are now available in the Admin for the checkout, minicart, cart, and product pages. Previews reveal how these buttons will look when they are enabled and rendered on the storefront.

Braintree

  • Braintree has discontinued the KOUNT fraud protection integration. It has been removed from the Magento Open Source codebase.
  • The Always request 3DS option has been added to the Admin.

Self-Custody Unconference

How to do self-custody right? What are the latest innovations and trailblazing projects in the self-custody space? The CVA Cybersecurity Working Group will bring together the CVA ecosystem to dive into the self-custody topic, network and connect in-person on October 4th. The unconference will feature 4 lightning talks of 5-7 minutes each by members of the wider Swiss blockchain security community, followed by Q&A and a networking apero.
